Since launching in 2015, DIYblinds has transformed Australia's window furnishings industry. We've simplified the process of designing and purchasing bespoke, high-quality blinds, curtains, and plantation shutters by introducing a seamless, virtual experience that eliminates the need for a physical showroom visit.
Our mission is to eliminate the barriers of high costs, inaccessible showrooms, and lengthy delivery times, making it easy for Aussies to achieve their dream homes.
In 2022, we secured a $15 million investment from the Australian Business Growth Fund (ABGF), paving the way for an exciting phase of innovation, scaling, and market expansion. This will kick off with HomePro, our exciting new brand that offers tailored solutions for customers, trade, architects, and designers.
From day one, our goal has been simple: to go above and beyond for our customers, making sure every experience with our brand is a great one. This approach has paid off. In 2024, we were thrilled to win the Product Review Award for the fifth year running. It's like getting a high-five from our customers, letting us know we're on the right track.
How we got here
It all started in 2015 as a small side hustle for Evan Montero and Liam Dobson, who worked together in Finance, and shared a passion for disruption.
The idea for DIYblinds was sparked when Evan faced a challenge while trying to purchase window furnishings for just one room in his parent's home. Given the small scale of the project, he found it nearly impossible to get someone to come out and quote. This showed a clear gap in the market and an industry calling out for a digital retailer.
It wasn't long until they had developed and launched a minimum-viable product. The almost instant demand blew them away, and after a competitor offered to acquire them, that was all they needed to convince them they were onto something genuinely disruptive. In 2017, they quit their jobs and went all in.
DIYblinds started only offering roller blinds and then added plantation shutters, with Evan and Liam proving to the market that it was possible to sell self-install shutters. By 2022, DIY Blinds had captured significant market share, moved into a new head office, expanded the team in Queensland and New South Wales, and soft-launched HomePro.
