Tips for Installing Blinds for Corner Windows

Corner windows can be tricky. But with the right approach, it’s easier than you think.

When you find yourself measuring for corner windows it’s important you take the following elements into consideration:

  1. There will be a gap. The first thing you need to understand is that you will definitely have at least a small gap (see image above). The size of this gap will depend on the type of blinds you’re measuring for. When deciding which style of window furnishing you’d like for your room, it is essential that you keep these allowances and resulting gap in mind.

  2. Decide which direction you’d like the gap to go. You will always have full coverage across one of the windows, so decide which direction you’d like the gap to face. If your corner window is at the front of your house, it’s often a good idea to have full coverage across the window facing the street. This will provide more privacy for your home.

  3. Consider a recess fit. If your windows have a frame, you may be able to utilise this space in a smart way by employing a recess fit for your blinds (this of course depends on the blind you choose and the depth of the frame). If this is the case, it is important to still keep in mind the width required for different blind types. There are a couple of benefits to a recess fit: they allow the control mechanism to be neatly tucked away, and the blinds can be completely lowered without covering up the sill, which means you can utilise the bottom of the frame to display ornaments and knick knacks.

  4. Think about a curved curtain track. If you’re using curtains, a curved track is one of the most effective ways to handle corner windows. It allows the fabric to flow continuously across both panes, reducing light gaps and creating a seamless finish. It also softens the look of the room and brings a more tailored, architectural feel to the space.
