Let’s Dive In!
We first fell in love with Kyal and Kara when they appeared on The Block and have loved following their progress. Now we watch them undertake their first knock-down rebuild with the fabulous Blue Lagoon beachside family home. This time, the duo really dived into the Blue Lagoon, tackling the pool, laundry and mudroom, powder room, main bathroom and guest bedroom. While these may seem like a lot of different spaces, Kara works her design magic to make them all feel connected to each other and the rest of the house.

Australian Coastal Meets Mediterranean Villa
The key to creating a sense of continuity throughout a home is to choose a theme and stick to it – but this doesn’t have to mean creating a series of identical spaces. Kyal and Kara’s Australian coastal meets Mediterranean villa theme allows for plenty of different colours and textures, that play out differently in different spaces but with a few key elements connecting them – here this means our sheer designer curtains from the Allusion range in Marzipan in most, but not all, rooms.
This home’s stunning theme emphasises textures and natural colours. Our sheer curtains provide privacy in the bedroom but still let in plenty of natural light that highlights the material of this linen bedspread.
The natural textures continue throughout the room with an upholstered bedhead, wool carpet and wooden bedframe and side tables. Our Allusion range give you a linen look and feel with added durability with a linen-cotton-poly blend for a look that will last.
The focus on textures continues with extra-large travertine tiles for the bathroom walls and oak cabinetry completing the look, while arched mirrors continue the theme on soft curves found in other areas of the house, including the staircase and pool.
Proving that laundries can be more than just functional, this space nails the coastal and Mediterranean vibe with eucalyptus-blue tiles.
The powder room brings together elements from the laundry, with coastal blue tones, and from the main bathroom, with a cohesive inset sink.

Cool, Calm, and Collected
Designing a home is plenty of fun, but once you’ve found your theme it’s time to stick with it. But that doesn’t mean it all has to look identical. Try and find a few pieces, colours or textures that connect different living zones together. It might be a pop of colour, the same wood used throughout the home, or the same fabric for your curtains – even when using slightly different colours; the result is a cohesive home, just like Kyal and Kara’s Blue Lagoon.
